Microsoft has laid off its Canada news editor Lee Richardson.

The layoff is party of a larger reduction at Microsoft, which is shedding 18,000 positions by the end of the year.

The company did not respond to J-Source’s request to detail the cuts in Canada. “The reductions happening are spread across many different business units, and many different countries,” a spokesperson said in an email. “We will continue to go through this process in the most thoughtful manner possible, with the deepest respect for affected individuals and recognition of their service to the company. We will offer severance to all affected employees.”

Richardson tweeted that four people had been laid off at the Toronto and Montreal offices, but J-Source was unable to confirm this with Microsoft.
