Gordon Fisher has been appointed president and publisher of the Pacific Newspaper Group, which publishes Postmedia dailies the Vancouver Sun and Vancouver Province.

Fisher has been with Postmedia Network Inc. for a number of years, most recently as its executive vice president Eastern Canada and president of the National Post since. Prior to that he was the publisher of the National Post, and has also been the managing editor of the Vancouver Sun.

He replaces Kevin Bent, who was also Postmedia’s vice president for Western Canada, overseeing the Sun, Province as well as the Edmonton Journal and Calgary Sun. Bent will be leaving Postmedia altogether.

The Sun reported that in a message to PNG employees, Bent said, "The timing is right for this change in my life and I am looking forward to the next chapter in my career."

Perhaps something to watch here is what The Globe and Mail media reporter Steve Laudurantaye tweeted Friday: Local copy will be shared between the Sun and the Province moving forward. Postmedia has already centralized some of its pages and production at its Hamilton centre.
