In response to a Twitter conversation that occurred over the weekend, Steve Buttry, Director of Community Engagement and Social Media for Digital First Media listed a number of reasons that news organizations should include outbound links.

Not only is it polite, honest, and transparent, but it can also help on the business side of things, as well. He explains that links will increase the likelihood of people seeing your work, due to the way search engines work, as well as the fact alerts and pingbacks that may make those people link to your work in social media.
