So, will Canada's only general interest sports pub look like a Canuck Sports Illustrated, or Maclean's with sports? Neither, new Sportsnet editor Steve Maich tells the Toronto Star in a recent interview.

The Star's Raju Mudhar caught up with Maich to get the scoop on Rogers' latest magazine venture, and Maich finally shed some light on what the new publication will look and read like:

"We’re very focused and think we have a great opportunity to do something unlike anything that anyone has seen in this market. We’re really inspired by a lot of the European sports magazines, which are incredibly visual and beautiful to look at, but are also written and edited with this passion that really kind of matches the passion of sports fans. That’s not really the sports journalism tradition in North America, and I think it’s an opportunity for us to distinguish our voice from what is out there.”

Maich also told Mudhar about some new hires: well-respected sports writer Gare Joyce is going to be features editor, writer and blogger on hockey. Staff will also come from The Hockey News, but many others are from the National Post, the Star and there's even a hire from Canadian Living.
