Winner of the Michener Award, Fellowships announced

The recipients of the 2015 Michener Award, the 2016 Michener-Deacon Fellowship and the 2016 Michener-Deacon Fellowship for Journalism Education were announced in Ottawa on June 17.
The annual awards honour journalism that makes a significant impact on the public good.
Société Radio-Canada’s Enquête won the 2015 Michener Award for its piece “Abus de la SQ: les femmes brisent le silence.” The story is “an investigation into ongoing physical and sexual abuse of Indigenous women in Val d’Or, Quebec, at the hands of local Sûreté du Québec officers,” according to the Michener Awards Foundation website.
Freelance journalist Paul Webster received the 2016 Michener-Deacon Fellowship. The 2016 Michener-Deacon Fellowship for Journalism Education was awarded to New York Times’ Patti Sonntag, who is a managing editor in the news services division.
