Michelle Siu, a freelance photographer based in Toronto, will be joining the Canadian Press on a paid six-week internship this summer after being announced as the winner of the Tom Hanson Photojournalism Award.

Michelle Siu, a freelance photographer based in Toronto, will be joining the Canadian Press on a paid six-week internship this summer after being announced as the winner of the Tom Hanson Photojournalism Award.

The award, given jointly by the Canadian Journalism Foundation and the Canadian Press, is designed to give photojournalists in the beginning stages of their career a chance to break into the industry.

Siu's winning portfolio included photos from Canada, Morocco, Rwanda and Burundi.
