Toronto Star digital editor John Ferri will join TVO as vice-president of current affairs and documentaries on May 5.

He will be responsible for leveraging the TVO brand to increase engagement.

"John brings a depth of experience and knowledge, in particular with digital platforms, that will help TVO step forward as a digital media organization serving all Ontarians," said Lisa de Wilde, CEO of TVO, in a press release. "As a journalist with decades of experience, John is well-positioned to help TVO support new content creation, reach and impact."

Ferri previously worked as a reporter and in various editor roles at the Star; he was also managing editor of the now defunct OpenFile.ca.

"I believe that current affairs and documentaries are important ways that TVO can help build citizen engagement in Ontario," Ferri said in the press release. "I'm looking forward to bringing my experience in journalism and digital platforms to help TVO expand the reach of their current affairs brand."
