    Local news boost

    A ruling by the  the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission includes provision for a new fund to support local news programming in markets under one million people, with cable and satellite distributors contributing about $60-million a year, reported the Globe and Mail.     Newspaper circulation decline speeds up in U.S.

    The latest report from the Audit Bureau of Circulation shows U.S. newspaper circulation declined 4.6 per cent in the six months ending in September, 2008. The report covers 507 daily newspapers. Declines were worst in large cities, but even quality titles such as the New York Times were not immune to the trend.
