La Presse reporter Laura-Julie Perreault has been named the Martin Wise Goodman Canadian Nieman Fellow.

Perreault will join 11 other foreign journalists and 12 American journalists as Nieman Fellows at Harvard University. She plans to issues facing women combatants as well as state building and democratization in post-dictatorial states.. The fellowship provides a stipend for living expenses and tuitions fees at Harvard University for a year.

According to the press release, Perreault has covered international affairs for La Presse, where she has worked for over 10 years. She has reported on the Chechen war, the Tunisian revolution and famine in Somalia. She has received a National Newspaper Award as well as an Amnesty International Award. 

Tamara Baluja is an award-winning journalist with CBC Vancouver and the 2018 Michener-Deacon fellow for journalism education. She was the associate editor for J-Source from 2013-2014.
