Members of J-Schools Canada/Écoles-J Canada now have access to a special course module on how to report responsibly on missing Indigenous people.

 This module is designed to help journalism educators understand and apply a new set of media guidelines produced by Looking Out For Each Other, a community-driven project led by the New Brunswick Aboriginal Peoples Council.

 The teaching module, created by Terra Tailleur at the University of King’s College and Erin Moore at Nova Scotia Community College, can be adapted by journalism educators to suit multiple purposes and courses. It includes:

  1. Background information and context for instructors;
  2. A class summary for students;
  3. Learning outcomes;
  4. Recommended readings and case studies;
  5. Videos from LOFEO project manager Michelle Perley, CBC journalist Nic Meloney and University of King’s Prof. Trina Roache;
  6. Example assignments and in-class exercises.
