It’s a pleasure to welcome the latest additions to our newsroom.

 

TABLET

Edward Chu joins The Star’s design team. He has worked in marketing and design for a range of companies including Bank of Montreal, Levi Strauss and Thinkway Toys.

Jarrett Churchill returns to The Star, where he worked previously from 2010 to 2013, in the role of tablet producer. He has worked most recently at Pagemasters North America and was with Metro from 2005 to 2010.

Jessica Darmanin comes to The Star as a visuals specialist from Maclean’s magazine, where she was associate photo editor. She has also taught news photography at LoyalistCollege.

Sharon Hockin joins us as a part-time executive/administrative assistant. She worked for a decade as executive assistant to the president of The Canadian Press.

Jen O’Dowd joins staff as a designer. She has worked for a number of organizations including One Advertising and Suzy Shier.

David Washburn joins us from Postmedia Editorial Services, where he was national deputy sports editor. He worked previously as a sports copy editor for the Ottawa Sun, and will work for us a tablet producer.

 

PRODUCTION DESK

Raymond Beauchemin joins us as team editor from the central news desk at Postmedia News. He was also deputy foreign editor of The National in Abu Dhabi and foreign editor of the Montreal Gazette, and is the author of a novel and a microbrewery beer cookbook.

 

CITY DESK

Stephen Spencer Davis comes to The Star from Global News, where he was an online news coordinator. He has worked on contract and as a freelance contributor to the Globe and Mail, The Grid, Toronto Life, Slate and other publications.

Ben Spurr has been a reporter with Now magazine since 2011. He has also freelanced and led the news section at a startup venture called the Mark News.

 

DIGITAL

David Weisz comes on board as a digital producer. He worked most recently as a reporter for QP Briefing and has also worked as a data journalist and web producer.

 

These fine additions to staff will all be in the building within the next two weeks. Hiring continues, so stay tuned for future announcements. And please get the word out to anyone you know who might be qualified for any of our tablet roles (designer, producer, content editor, visuals specialist).
