The following memo was sent to CBC staff on May 2, 2017 from Steve Ladurantaye, managing editor of The National, and Jonathan Whitten, senior director of news content.

Caroline Harvey shall be the next executive producer of The National.

She’ll be jumping right in on the development of the next iteration of the show, while the current show remains in Don Spandier’s capable hands. Most of you won’t need an introduction – when Caroline was a senior producer on The National she was respected as much for her deft touch with people as she was for her keen sense of current affairs.

She has spent the last year at the helm of Marketplace, leading a determined team with confidence and vigour and ensuring that every episode was not only newsworthy (and interesting) but also well researched and able to stand up to the deepest of scrutiny.

She also has solid CBC credentials – she’s worked on Connect with Mark Kelley, Doc Zone, Fifth Estate Specials, and Venture. Not too shabby.

Of course, her move will necessitate other changes. We’ll be looking for a new executive producer of Marketplace. Stay tuned.
