The following memo was sent to The Globe and Mail staff on July 28, 2016, from Derek DeCloet, executive editor of The Globe and Mail and editor of Report on Business, and David Walmsley, editor-in-chief.

We’re thrilled to announce the appointment of Duncan Hood as editor of Report on Business Magazine and director of features for ROB.

Duncan joined The Globe last year as deputy director of editorial products for ROB and works closely with Scott Adams on the financial products part of our business. Duncan led a reworking of the Globe’s strategy for editorial newsletters, including the relaunch of the Globe Politics, Carrick on Money and Streetwise newsletters and the launch of our new Globe Investor newsletter, with impressive results. He also led the creation of our new real estate hub, which opened for business in April and garnered nearly 2.4-million page views in its first two months.

I had the pleasure of working with Duncan during my time at Rogers, where he spent most of his journalism career in increasingly senior editorial positions at Maclean’s, Canadian Business and MoneySense magazines. He spent nearly six years as an editor-in-chief there, at both CB and MoneySense, before coming here. I know him to be a thoughtful leader with a strong sense of what the audience wants and how to get it.

Report on Business Magazine, as the publisher of the best long-form business stories in Canada, plays a vital role in fulfilling the overall mission of the ROB – to produce exclusive and intelligent journalism that makes us indispensable to Canadian businesspeople and investors.

As the magazine is part of the larger operation, we’ve also asked Duncan to take on additional duties as features director for ROB. This means he will work with other editors and writers to help plot out our calendar of ROB big bets for digital and newsprint, and will offer regular input and ideas on how get the best possible result for readers.

Duncan starts his new job on Aug 8. Please join us in congratulating him.
