Steve Maich has been appointed publisher and editor-in-chief of Rogers' newest magazine, Sportsnet. Maich has been with Rogers' for seven years and was most recently editor-in-chief of Canadian Business and group publisher of Rogers' set of consumer biz mags, which included CB, Profit, and MoneySense.

Sportsnet is set to launch late September and is Canada's first national bi-weekly sports magazine. In his upcoming role, Maich will be responsible for heading the magazine, but also hiring the to-be Sportsnet team of sports writers, editors, photographers and designers.

"As a life-long sports fan, I've felt for a long time that Canada needed its own sports magazine, focused on the stories and icons that we are passionate about," Maich said in a press release. "To be entrusted with the opportunity to help create the magazine I always wanted to read, with the resources, backing and expertise of a media company like Rogers, is a dream job. I'm honoured to be chosen for it."

The magazine will publish 26 issues per year and will launch with a circulation of 100,000.
