The Globe and Mail’s multimedia editor, Stuart Thompson, is leaving to join The Wall Street Journal as its senior interactive graphics editor.

Thompson’s last day at the Globe is May 30.

“In the three years since Stuart joined the Globe as a summer web editor, he has become one of the newsroom’s not-so-secret weapons,” Kevin Siu, head of digital at the Globe, said in a staff memo. “As a multimedia editor, then a member of the mobile team, he has been a pioneer in The Globe’s data journalism, visualization and interactive efforts and collaborated with reporters and editors across the paper to bring our stories to digital life. If you’ve ever approached him for help, you know that he rarely says no and often comes up with something better than you originally envisioned.”
