Sun Media Corporate Editorial is looking for a digital editor to assist in the day-to-day online operations of its English publications. Reporting to the Digital Content Director, the Content Optimization Editor will be part of a national online team that provides content, support and strategic direction for more than 120 local newsrooms.

Sun Media Corporate Editorial is looking for a digital editor to assist in the day-to-day online operations of its English publications. Reporting to the Digital Content Director, the Content Optimization Editor will be part of a national online team that provides content, support and strategic direction for more than 120 local newsrooms.

The Content Optimization Editor’s primary responsibility will be managing the Canoe.ca homepage. The person who fills this role will also assist in the co-ordination and execution of content for all of Sun Media’s platforms. The successful candidate will have exceptional news judgment and in-depth knowledge of everything from politics to pop culture, as well as some familiarity with Canada’s professional sports teams.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage the homepage for Canoe.ca, English

  • Work with the Digital Content Director and product teams to develop mobile and tablet friendly content

  • Edit copy

  • Create content packages and implement third-party web tools as required

  • Social Media strategy. Optimize content for social media

  • Manage UGC

  • Act as first line of support for the local markets

  • Weekend work to be expected

Qualifications:

  • Great editorial sense. You know how to search the corners of the web to curate content that captures readers

  • Expert at writing engaging headlines that demand attention and scream ‘share me’ on social media
  • Social media whiz. Background in Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, Tumblr, Instagram
  • Minimum of two years of editorial experience. Previous homepage management experience preferred.

  • You think mobile first and have your eye on emerging platforms.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Familiar with the digital publishing environment

  • Impeccable organizational skills
