The Toronto Star's food editor Jennifer Bain won first place for her "Saucy Lady" column at the recent Association of Food Journalists Awards Competition.

The competition drew 280 entries from across North America. Bain won the Best Newspaper Food Column award, submitting a column about natto, a Japanese dish of fermented soybeans, and a smoked jerk takeout shop in Scarborough.

Bain won third place in 2005 and 2006 in the column writing category for newspapers with a circulation of 350,001 and over; this year's award includes all levels of circulation.
