Bell Media has laid off three full-time staff at Newstalk 1010 in Toronto.

Morning anchor Evelyn Macko, Queen’s Park reporter Katie Franzios and reporter Amber Gero were let go from the radio station, Bell Media said.

“While decisions like this are never easy, these staff reductions are based on synergies across our Toronto newsgathering operations,” said Matthew Garrow, director of news and radio communications at Bell Media, in an email to J-Source. “We thank Evelyn, Katie, and Amber for their service and wish them the very best in future endeavours.”

Gero is leaving the station after more than 14 years with it.

Franzios was the provincial affairs reporter for six years, according to her LinkedIn profile. Prior to joining Newstalk 1010, Macko worked at 680 News, Q107 and AM640 according to her profile on the Seneca College website where she teaches.

These editorial layoffs are part of a larger staffing reorganization that also resulted in seven other layoffs at Bell Media’s music stations in Toronto, Winnipeg and Kitchener, Ont.
