The following memo was sent to Torstar employees on July 24, 2017 from Irene Gentle, Managing Editor, Toronto Star.

I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Robin Honderich to the new position of Senior Manager, Newsroom Audience Engagement, effective August 1, 2017. Robin will report directly to me in this role.

As part of the newsroom management team, Robin will work closely with newsroom leaders and journalists to help funnel readers to deeper levels of engagement with our content across all platforms. This includes assisting the newsroom in developing an improved understanding of our audience segments and customers to ensure we are providing the content they want, where they want it and when. Robin will also lead efforts to identify the content required to engage and grow readership in key customer segments.

The role will work closely with our marketing, analytics, and digital product teams to drive data-driven decisions about digital products, constantly iterating and learning from successes and failures, while always finding new ways to develop deeper connections with our audiences.

Robin brings a strong depth of digital experience to this role. After 6 years at TSN, he joined the Star in 2014 and has held numerous management roles in the SMG Digital team, most recently as Senior Product Manager for Star Touch.

Robin holds a Master’s degree in Media Management from Curtin University in Australia, and an Honours Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from the University of Guelph.

Please join me in welcoming Robin to the Star newsroom.
