Star memo on Cathal Kelly, Robyn Doolittle moving to Globe
"Of course they raid the Star … where else are they going to look?" editor-in-chief Michael Cooke told Toronto Star staff after the departures of sports columnist Cathal Kelly and City Hall reporter Robyn Doolittle to The Globe and Mail.
Subject: of course they raid the Star … where else are they going to look?
It’s a tough week for the Star. Our competitors have woken up after 5 years of slumber and are coming after our best people, and in some cases are successful in luring them away.
Despite the losses of Doolittle and Kelly, we remain the best investigative and sports game in town.
Please be assured, we will continue to invest in reporting talent to maintain our lead over the others, who have a long way to catch up.
Stay tuned.
Sincerely,
Michael
